Chocolatiers of the High Winds by H.B. Kurtzwilde
A gay steampunk adventure. Follow the weekly travails of young Mayport Titus, and his intercontinental airship journey to restore the fortunes of the Titus Chocolate Company.
Chapter 25: Median
Among his friends, Mayport suddenly found himself as the most reluctant of adventurers. Costor’s promise to liquidate what could not be made useful was somewhat hampered by Thiervy’s broad areas of curiosity. Mayport let them sort their own matters and kept his eyes on familiar things. He had his way in the long-neglected chocolate shop, a challenge he felt prepared to tackle with no idea how to finish.
He was left alone with empty counters, windows that had been left unwashed for most of his life, and floors that wouldn’t have passed Cully’s exacting standards. He armed himself with brooms and buckets, then rolled up his sleeves and got started. With Gasteau’s example firmly in his mind, he cleaned until his muscles burned with raw vitality.
He was on his knees dealing with the rough wood floors when his holystone came within inches of wide skirts.
